Building a Secure Cloud Infrastructure for Graffiti Studio

Case study

Graffiti Studio contacted us with a specific need: to build a highly secure cloud infrastructure to replace their on-premises infrastructure. Their key requirements included:

  • Centralized management and control of files and user access.
  • Ability to download client materials directly from WeTransfer, FTP, and Aspera into the cloud environment, without the need to store them on a local server.
  • Large cloud storage capacity (10TB+) for media file storage.
  • Secure user authorization, providing unified access to all business applications in use..
  • Automatic backup of 10TB of data..
  • Migration of 16 corporate email accounts to Microsoft 365.

We delivered a scalable, efficient, and reliable solution to address the problem.

Implementation of Azure Files as a centralized file repository

To provide a secure and scalable file storage solution, we implemented Azure Files— a cloud service that replaced the client’s on-premises file infrastructure.


  • We created shared folders in Azure Files with different access levels for the various departments within the company.

  • We configured access through Azure Active Directory Domain Services (Azure AD DS)which enabled centralized user management and controlled access to the files.

  • We integrated automated backups with Azure BackupWe integrated automated backups with Azure Backup, to ensure all files are protected against loss or corruption.

  • We optimized the workflowby configuring direct downloads into the cloud directories, without intermediate storage on local devices.

User permission management through AD groups and Group Policy (GPOs)

To ensure security and efficiency in access management,we configured Active Directory groups and Group Policy Objects (GPOs): 


  • We created user groups in Azure AD DS, that segment employees by role.
  • Applying specific access rules.

  • We automated the authentication and access process, We automated authentication and access, so users don’t have to enter different passwords for different platforms.

Building secure network connectivity for access to Azure Files.

Retaining the existing email service

Despite  the migration to Microsoft 365,the client decided to keep its email service with its hosting providerBy configuring Microsoft 365 accounts,BGS enables a smoother future transition if the company chooses to move to Microsoft email services. 

Results and benefits

The successful configuration and setup of Azure Files led to a significant improvement in security, centralized control, and optimized workflows:


  • Secure, centralized file storage through Azure Files Cloud. 

  • Flexibility and scalability, allowing storage to be expanded as needed.

  • Better access control and data protection through Azure Active Directory and group policies.

  • Integration with all business applications through Azure AD.

  • Secure network infrastructure that protects data from unauthorized access.

Conclusion

The project was completed successfully and in full compliance with the client’s initial requirements. However, Graffiti Studio decided to retain its local solution.

The client found that file upload speeds in the cloud environment were not high enough for their media production workflows. As a result, despite the successful implementation of Azure Files, they decided to continue using local storage for some processes. 

This project demonstrates the flexibility of cloud solutions and the importance of assessing business needs in advance. In the future, with improvements in internet connectivity, Graffiti Studio can consider a full cloud migration to benefit from even greater security and efficiency.
